What is exercise physiology?

Exercise physiology is based on extensive research that shows being active has a powerful impact on physical and mental wellbeing. Exercise physiologists are university-qualified allied health professionals. They design and deliver safe, individualised exercise programs to help promote good health and manage disease and disability.

Exercise physiologists work in various health and fitness fields. At Community NeuroRehab Service , our exercise physiology professionals concentrate on neurological care. We only see people with conditions of the brain and nervous system, which helps us deliver the latest research-backed programs. Our EPs are all registered with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). This means they have completed at least three years of full-time university education in the exercise and sports science field at a recognised institution.

Your exercise physiology journey with us

At CNRS, we don’t just ‘treat’ people, we immerse ourselves in your world. We’ll work with you and your friends, family and supports to help you achieve your goals and vision for life. Our aim is your aim – wherever that may take us.

Just as we become part of your community, we want you to feel a part of the CNRS community. Here’s what exercise physiology with CNRS will look like.

Getting to know each other

The first time you meet your Sunshine Coast exercise physiologist <link to home page>, they will take the time to get to know you. They will ask you about your health concerns and goals. They will do some tests to see how you’re functioning at the moment. Your family and support people are welcome to be part of each visit.

Planning, planning, planning!

At this stage we are going to set out a therapy plan to focus on your specific goals which may involve; weekly, fortnightly or monthly, at the pool, gym, beach or home, we will be there working with you to tackle your goals.

The sky's the limit

Do you want to get back on your boat? Do you want to get back on the beach? Do you want to get on and off the floor to play with the grandkids? Kayaking, fishing, hiking, outdoor adventures, rolling easier in bed; you name it, we’ll work on it.

“At CNRS our passion is to empower each individual to live their lives the way they dream. Dream Big, Dream Small, Dream Obscure – whatever you dream let us know and we will do our best to help you achieve it because that’s The CNRS Way.”

Frequently asked questions

Find out what our clients are asking

What does an exercise physiologist do?

An exercise physiologist assesses and treats individuals with chronic health conditions. They use exercise-based strategies to improve your ability to function in daily activities and reduce the impact of your health condition into the future as much as possible.

What is the difference between exercise physiology and physiotherapy?

At CNRS our EPs treat and assist you with your health condition purely through exercise and movement. Our physiotherapists do hands-on treatments and see you through your more acute phase of diagnosis or health flare-up.

What does a treatment session with an exercise physiologist look like?

Each treatment session will be unique and specific to your individualised needs. You can expect a 60-minute session where you will work on strengthening, stretching, pain management and movement exercises targeted to achieving your goals.

I find it difficult to leave my house. Do I have to come into your clinic?

At CNRS all our therapists can provide treatment either in your home, local community, or in our Buderim clinic space. Let us know your preference and we will meet you there.
